The Challenge

A South African tech company at the forefront of digital identity verification approached us with an urgent and specialized hiring need: to find a technical expert capable of leading their MAUI projects at a higher level than anyone they currently have in their Dev team. Given that MAUI is a relatively new language, the ideal candidate needed to have as many years of hands-on experience with MAUI as the language has been available, ensuring they could handle the complexity of the work at an expert level. Additionally, the role required a robust technical foundation, including several years of experience in Xamarin and at least a decade of development expertise in .NET. With delayed projects and high stakes, this hire was critical to their success.

Our Approach

Recognizing the depth of expertise required, our team implemented a precise and methodical strategy to identify and secure the right candidate:

  1. In-Depth Research
    We began by targeting companies known to use MAUI and identifying individuals who had been working with the language since its inception. Profiles were further assessed to ensure candidates also had substantial experience in Xamarin and over 10 years of .NET development, guaranteeing they met the seniority and expertise required for the role.
  2. Rigorous Profiling
    From an initial pool of 94 profiles, we narrowed our focus to 38 candidates who demonstrated the depth of experience and seniority necessary to lead projects at a company with exceptionally high standards.  With it being a fully remote role, we were able to target the best across the country.  This refinement ensured we concentrated only on those capable of stepping into an expert-level role immediately.
  3. Targeted Outreach
    Given the specialized nature of the role, outreach needed to be intentional and carefully crafted. Each candidate received a personalized and sincere message that highlighted the unique opportunities and challenges our client offered. This approach successfully engaged candidates who were highly sought-after and often approached for other roles.
  4. Comprehensive Assessment
    Through detailed interviews, we evaluated each candidate’s MAUI experience, ensuring it was both extensive and relevant. We also assessed their involvement in complex projects and their contributions, ensuring they could confidently take ownership of the client’s high-risk, high-impact work.  Level of interest in the company and what they were working on was also taken into considering in shortlisting our final 3 candidates to ensure the client was more likely to have a successful placement at the end.

The Outcome

We proudly submitted three exceptional candidates, that were shortlisted from the largest possible pool of candidates, all of whom met the client’s stringent requirements. Following a swift interview and technical assessment process, one candidate was hired.
